Toronto, Canada: Desperate for the safe release of his 32-year-old son Robin Singh from the Pakistani Taliban, Toronto based Bishan Dass has said his son faces the threat of conversion. An IT professional with degrees from the US, Robin Singh was kidnapped in Peshawar on February 12 for a ransom of Rs 1 crore. A father of three sons, Singh is one of the four Sikhs abducted recently by the Pakistan Taliban from Peshawar for ransom.

Haiti Sewa updates from United Sikhs

Port-au-Prince, Haiti: The first UNITED SIKHS’ medical team of 6 doctors including two family practice physicians, a rehabilitation/pain management physician, a neurologist, an occupational therapist and a physical therapist returned after helping survivors with acute medical issues and physical rehabilitation. The medical team took approximately $45,000 worth of medical equipment with them, including therapy equipment, medicines, and wound care supplies. UNITED SIKHS rehabilitation team has been asked to come back and be a part of the planning and building of a new 250 bed rehabilitation hospital which will be built in Port-au-Prince. Dr. Sagina Kaur commented, “It’s not enough for us to come there and help once, we need to leave behind something sustainable so that the people of Haiti will continue to heal. That will be the focus of our next effort.”

Canada-based Guru Ravidass mission against separate granth

Amandeep Kaur Amritsar, Punjab: Sikh religious organisations, including the SGPC, that have been opposing the idea of a separate granth for Ravidassias have got support from unexpected quarters in the Vishwa Guru Ravidass Mission. The Canada division of the mission has not only condemned the creation of the separate granth, but has also sought the restoration of the old maryada at Benaras-based Seer Govardhanpur shrine by holding parkash of Guru Granth Sahib.
