Amritsar, Punjab: After construction of a memorial to Operation Bluestar at the Golden Temple by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, now Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) is all set to build a memorial at Gurdwara Rakabganj in Delhi for Sikh genocide victims of 1984.
DSGMC president Manjit Singh GK told TOI on Tuesday that he had convened a special general house session of the committee members on Wednesday at Gurdwara Rakabganj to give formal approval for the memorial. In the 51-member house of DSGMC, SAD(B) has 43 members.
While the memorial to Operation Bluestar was set up in memory of Sikhs who were killed by the Army, the Delhi memorial will be for innocent Indian nationals who were killed in the 1984 genocide. Manjit Singh GK said the memorial would be constructed at Gurdwara Rakabganj complex, which is situated opposite to the Parliament House.
He said instead of helping and extending support for the memorial, Delhi’s Congress government has been causing hurdles in their way. “We will constitute a sub-committee comprising Sikh intellectuals to chalk out final plans for the memorial,” he said.
