Ottawa, Canada: The Sikh Youth Federation (SYF) is proudly hosting ‘Sikh Awareness Day – Parliament Hill’ on Wednesday September 24th, 2014.
The purpose of this event is to showcase the Canadian-Sikh culture to Canadian’s through meaningful, positive and fun engagement, at the same time eliminating stereotypical barriers.
This is an all-day event taking place in the heart of Canada’s capital – Parliament Hill. From 10:00am onwards, SYF will be celebrating Sikh Awareness on the Hill through a variety of activities. “Langar,” is the concept of “free kitchen” and is a regular practice in Sikh institutions of worship (Gurudwaras). Langar symbolizes equality of all as everyone sits on the floor together to eat a vegetarian meal regardless of their background (including: religion, race, gender, orientation and more). Langar will be distributed to all who attend.
The SYF will also have on site, Dastaar (Turban) material which will be used for turban tying for anyone who is interested to see themselves with a turban tied. The event is free of cost.
