US Sikh commerce chamber opens centre in Chandigarh

Chandigarh: The American-Punjabi community opened the India centre of Sikh American Chamber of Commerce (SACC) in the city today.

Sukhwinder Singh Kaila, founder president of SACC (New Jersey, US), presented the charter to the newly elected president of centre, Manipal Dhariwal.

Kaila, a successful IT entrepreneur in New Jersey, said “strength of a community was judged by the strength of its business community”. Hence, the SACC was formed in 2011 by Sikh-American businessmen and professionals to create a strong voice in the US as well as address various ethnic challenges that the community faced, he said.

SACC will be extending a helping hand to new generation of entrepreneurs as well as support the existing ones with newer trading opportunities. The India centre would organise regular interactive sessions with experts and business leaders, exchange information on trade opportunities, build a financial corpus to assist with seed/angel funding of startups and mentor young entrepreneurs.

Dhariwal said though the chamber represented a cross-section of Punjabi and Sikh American businesses and professionals, SACC was engaged in promoting entrepreneurship through networking and exchange programmes for young professionals, startups and students.

Ruby Dhaliwal, Mayor from City of San Joaquin, California, said tremendous potential existed for collaboration in agriculture and agro-processing field, which both the countries could explore much more actively through the Chamber.
