Yahoo appoints Gurmit Singh as new India Director

Hyderabad, India: Gurmit Singh joins Yahoo India from his current position as chief executive officer of Forbes India business magazine. Yahoo Inc. on Wednesday appointed Gurmit Singh as managing director for its Indian operations, replacing Arun Tadanki, who quit the company in February last year.

Singh will oversee Yahoos business in India and will be responsible for its growth in the country. He will take over his new assignment with immediate effect, Yahoo said.

Singh joins Yahoo India from his current position as chief executive officer (CEO) of Forbes India business magazine, published by media and entertainment conglomerate Network18 Media and Investments Ltd.
He will report to Yahoos vice-president and head of India and South-East Asia operations, Yvonne Chang, a statement said.

Gurmit comes to Yahoo with a strong track record of delivering growth. His understanding of users and advertisers will be a great asset for Yahoo as we bring a number of product innovations to India, Chang said in the statement.

During a career spanning 20 years, Singh has held leadership positions for companies in consumer products, music and entertainment and media companies such as Sony Music Entertainment India, HT Media Ltd, the India Today Group, Rajshri Media (Pvt.) Ltd and Marico Ltd.

He is a business administration graduate from the Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) at the University of Delhi, and is a university gold medallist in mechanical engineering from Osmania University, Hyderabad.
The Sunnyvale, California-based firm has been struggling to regain its lost glory under the leadership of its CEO Marissa Mayer by revamping its products and increasing focus on mobile platforms. Mayer has been trying to infuse talent and newer ideas into the company by acquiring start-ups that have become a hit with the newer generation of Internet users. Last year, Yahoo purchased blogging site Tumblr for $1.1 billion.
Yahoo has a research and development centre in Bangalore.
