Delhi, India: Twenty-five years after the 1984 Sikh Genocide, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today filed two separate chargesheets against former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar, blaming him for two of the “murders” 25 years ago. Twelve others – including Sajjan’s relative Balwan Khokkar – have also been charged for the crimes. The CBI has imposed charges under sections 302, 153-A, 109, 436, 295, 201, 396, 427, 436, 449 and 505 of the Indian Penal Code in its chargesheet filed in the Special CBI court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja here today.

New Delhi, India: Moved by renowned journalist Rahul Bedi’s recent recollection of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, internationally acclaimed Indian filmmaker Shekhar Kapur has come out with his own memories of the ’savagery’. ‘How does a city descend into savagery? A city I was brought up in – my own Sikh friends hiding with their families in safe houses to save themselves from the mad slaughter frenzy that was spreading so fast through the city,’ Kapur posted on his blog www.shekharkapur.com/blog, after reading Bedi’s account of the incident, as told to IANS.

Amritsar, Punjab: The All India Sikh Students’ Federation (AISSF) and US-based organization Sikhs for Justice has jointly initiated a campaign to record the statements of the victims of 1984 anti-Sikh riots by making a video film so as to present it to the UN for creating international pressure on the Indian government to seek justice.
