Punjab CM Badal announces new memorial for Sikh martyrs

Khatti, Phagwara: Punjab chief minister announced to raise a memorial of Bhai Mati Dass, Dass, Bhai Sati Dass and Bhai Dayala – who sacrificed their lives along with ninth Sikh master Guru Teg Bahadur in Delhi in seventeenth century – at a function organized here by Sri Brahmin Sabha Punjab which had demanded the memorial stating that three were from Brahmin caste.

The function was organized on Sunday at Tapo Asthaan of Bhagwaan Parshu Ram – a Brahmin God – to mark his birth anniversary in village Khaatti. Brahmin Sabha President Pandit Devi Dyal Prahsar said that they had raised the demand for the memorial in the memory of the three martyrs who were from Brahmin caste and they sacrificed their lives along with the Guru.

Sabha had taken out a procession – Rin Utaar Yatan Yatra – from Bathinda to Anandpur Sahib last year to highlight the sacrifices by “Brahman” Sikhs along ninth Sikh master Guru Teg Bahadur in seventeenth century and to express gratitude to the Sikh guru who sacrificed his life for saving Hindus from forced conversions during Moughal rule.

On Sunday Badal, while addressing the gathering, recalled the age old ties between the Hindus and Sikhs and said that both the communities made great sacrifices to protect each other on one hand and to preserve the unity and integrity of the country on the other.

As Badal announced to construct the memorial for the three martyrs he assigned the task to Anandpur Sahhib MLA Dr Daljit Singh Cheema to work on the project and to find a suitable place and also to work on the plan.

He also announced Rs 50 lakhs for development work at Bhawan Parshuram Tapo-Asthaan Khatti.

Meanwhile Devi Dyal Prashar said that the memorial would recognize the contribution and sacrifices of Brahmins to the Sikh movement.
The three martyrs were executed in Delhi with different torturous method during Aurangzeb’s rule in the presence of Guru Teg Bahadur and just before his execution.
