Chandigarh: “I am thankful to Beant Singh’s family for forgiving us and supporting the movement for our release,” said Lakhwinder Singh on his release from jail on a 28-day parole along with Shamsher Singh here this evening.
“I am thankful to the Centre, the state government and particularly Beant Singh’s family which has shown large-heartedness and forgiven us,” he said. The detainees also thanked Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa and the Sikh Sangat for standing up for them.
“This is the first time that parole has been granted to both the convicts. Earlier, all applications by their kin in this regard were rejected,” said counsel AS Chahal.
Lakhwinder Singh and Shamsher Singh paid obeisance at Gurdwara Amb Sahib, Mohali, upon their release. Shamsher Singh’s wife Baljinder Kaur, his daughter Sarabjit Kaur, sister Charnajit Kaur and brother Bhagwant Singh had come to receive him.
Lakhwinder Singh’s sister Sukhwinder Kaur and his brother-in-law Jung Singh had came to take him home.
Meanwhile, organisers of Sikh Bandi Rehai Lehar announced a Sikh convention at Gurdwara Amb Sahib at 2 pm tomorrow.
