Hemkunt Sahib yatra on despite bad weather

Amritsar, Punjab: Although the Uttarakhand Government has suspended the Chaar Dham Yatra as well as pilgrimage to Sri Hemkunt Sahib in view of bad weather conditions, pilgrims continue to head towards Hemkunt Sahib. The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall today and tomorrow. There is also a possibility of water level going up in the rivers.

Gurdwara Rishikesh Manager Darshan Singh said the Met Department had predicted that the area would receive 250 mm rainfall on these two days and the pilgrims were cautioned about it. However, they continued to undertake the yatra, he said.

He said the roads leading to the shrine were okay as of now. Around 2.5 lakh pilgrims had visited Hemkunt Sahib this year, though the number was less as compared to the last year, he added. The water level in the rivers was more this time due to increased melting of glaciers, as a result of which the bridge meant for ponies at Gobind Ghat had been damaged. However, the one meant for pilgrims travelling on foot was in good condition.
