Ludhiana, Punjab: A chrysanthemum show, and a painting competition, was organised at Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara in Sarabha Nagar on Sunday.
More than 200 varieties and sub-varieties of the chrysanthemum flower were displayed at the show. A large number of individuals and educational or industrial institutions took part in the competition.
An on-the-spot painting competition on environment and flowers named in ‘gurbani’ was also held in three groups.
The first group comprised students from Classes 1 to 5, second group was from Classes 6 to 12, while college students were included in the third group. The winners were presented bicycles by Nova Cycles, Ludhiana.
One of the participants, Charandeep Singh, said, “I displayed around 30 varieties of chrysanthemum, prepared by me at home.”
Nachhattar Singh Malhi, Guru Kashi University vicechancellor, appreciated the gurdwara management committee for taking up the cause of environment and called upon other religious institutions to take up the cause further.
Mohinder Singh Grewal, Gurdwara Environment Committee convener, said the committee would propagate growing of herbal plants in Sarabha Nagar in future.
Gurdwara committee president Jatinder Singh Sandhu, while thanking the participants, judges, associates and the general public for their support, said that the religious, social, educational and other institutions could play an important role in bringing a change in people’s mind towards the environment.
