My name is Jaywin Singh Malhi, and I’m proud to be graduating this spring from Southern Methodist University in Texas! I’m equally excited about what’s just ahead, starting with Harvard Law School this fall.
When people ask about my inspirations and motivations, I come back to a singular experience: my SikhLEAD internship in Washington, D.C., in 2012. It was work and learning and fun all at once, setting me up for Harvard and beyond.
During my internship for U.S. Senator John Cornyn I worked with his staff and met Cabinet members including U.S. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew. The experience taught me how to effect positive change and inspired me to do so on behalf of our community and all Americans. Along the way, the SALDEF staff organized a variety of programs to foster valuable personal and professional connections for me. My summer as a SikhLEAD intern was full of learning, fun, and inspiration. Every young Sikh American should have this opportunity.
