Diamond-studded Chaur Sahib offered at Golden Temple

Amritsar, Punjab: Surjit Kaur, a woman from Mumbai, offered a diamond-studded Chaur Sahib (ceremonial whisk waved over Guru Granth Sahib) worth ` 16 lakh on Tuesday at the sanctum sanctorum of the Golden Temple here.

The diamonds on the handle alone are worth more than ` 3.48 lakh. The handle is plated with 22-carat gold that weighs 432 grams and 800 milligrams. Surjit Kaur made the offering in the presence of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) secretary Roop Singh and Harmandir Sahib head granthi (priest) Giani Jagtar Singh, who also preformed the Ardas (prayer) for the wellbeing of the donor and her family, an SGPC press release has stated.

Her previous valuable offerings at the shrine include a gold-plated Chaur Sahib, silver-plated doors, and ` 15 lakh cash.
