Coventry Sikhs take protest over alleged human rights abuse in India to 10 Downing Street

London, UK: A petition containing 120,000 signatures protesting against alleged human rights abuses in India has been handed to 10 Downing Street.

Protesters from the Guru Nanak Parkash Gurdwara, in Harnall Lane West, Coventry, were among hundreds from all over the country who travelled to Downing Street to support the petition and to highlight human rights issues in India.

They want the UK government to put pressure on India to sign the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court and the UN Convention against torture, so Indian citizens would have the same basic human rights as people in the UK.

Councillor Bally Singh, who led the party from Coventry, said: “The petition has been immensely successful, the British people have always stood up for human rights and we are so grateful for their help.

We want to shine the light on human rights abuses and hope the UK will take moral action to help vulnerable people.

“Together we can give those in need a voice.”
