In 2005, Narendra Modi, Chief Minister of the Indian state of Gujarat was denied a diplomatic visa to the United States. According to the “Immigration and Nationality Act” any foreign government official who was responsible or “directly carried out, at any time, particularly severe violations of religious freedom” are not eligible for a US visa. We ask the US embassies, and the Obama administration to stay firm and not change its policies.
On July 8th, 2008, the United States Commission on International Religious Freedoms issued a statement stating, “The United States Commission on International Religious Freedom urges the U.S. State Department to reaffirm its past decision to deny a tourist visa to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi”
