Bharat Ratna sought for martyrs Udham Singh and Bhagat Singh

Chandigarh: Congress MLA Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi on Monday demanded that the Centre should bestow the Bharat Ratna on freedom fighter Shaheed Udham Singh, who had avenged the Jallianwala Bagh massacre by shooting dead British officer Michael O’Dwyer. Rana Sodhi appealed to the Centre to consider the martyr for the award.

The MLA was reacting to the talk about conferring the Bharat Ratna on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Meanwhile, a resolution passed by the executive body of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) on Monday demanded that the highest civilian honour be conferred on Shaheed Bhagat Singh and late Sikh leader Master Tara Singh. DSGMC president Manjit Singh GK introduced the resolution at the executive body meeting of the committee, and its general secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa seconded it. The DSGMC would send the resolution to the Centre to seek its implementation.
