Amritsar, Punjab: Four days after the Sikh clergy awarded him ‘tankhah’ (punishment) for his blasphemous speech while seeking votes for BJP’s Arun Jaitley, state Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia today performed ‘sewa’ at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib in Anandpur Sahib. He removed dust off the devotees’ shoes, washed utensils and listened to kirtan.
During a public rally here on April 25, Majithia had distorted Guru Gobind Singh’s ‘shabad’. Instead of saying “Nischay kar apni jeet karu”, he had ended his speech with: “Nischay kar Arun Jaitley ki jeet karu”. Realising his mistake, he tendered a public apology a day later. Subsequently, he submitted a letter of apology to Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh.
The latter called a meeting of the Sikh clergy on May 1 to discuss the matter. The clergy directed Majithia to perform ‘langar sewa’ at all five Takhts and hold Akhand Path at Akal Takht.
Talwandi Sabo: Bikramjit Singh Majithia undertook ‘sewa’ (community service) at Takht Damdama Sahib here. Majithia said that distorting a hymn was a grave mistake for which he deserved to be punished. Also present at the Takht were head granthi Bhai Balwant Singh, SGPC members Bhagwant Singh Syalka and Jodh Singh Samra and manager Jagpal Singh.
