Anandpur, Punjab: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) will give free education up to Class 12 in its schools to Amridhari (baptised) Sikh children from baptised families.
This decision came on Wednesday during a meeting of the SGPC’s executive committee here where the SGPC president, Avtar Singh Makkar, led the proceedings.
Five needy Sikh girls from Jammu and Kashmir will get free education every year in the SGPC’s engineering colleges and polytechnics.
The SGPC will hold a kabaddi tournament every year in the memory of one of its players who had died in England recently on a tour. The SGPC will give job to a member from his family.
“We have set aside Rs 20 lakh to give financial assistance to Sikligar Sikh families,” said Makkar. “On the request of the Sikh Council of Pakistan chairman, Mastan Singh, the SGPC will give him Rs 10 lakh for fighting legal cases related to the historical property of Sikh Gurus.” SGPC junior vicepresident Kewal Singh, general secretary Sukhdev Singh Bhaur, and other members of the executive committee attended the meeting.
