Amritsar, Punjab: Some Sikh organisations and political parties l i ke the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have demanded a criminal case against revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia and his ex-communication from the Sikh community for distorting a ‘shabad’ of Guru Gobind Singh by adding Amritsar BJP nominee Arun Jaitley’s name to it.
While reciting the shabad “Deh Shiva var mohe ehai shubh karman tekabhun na daron” at a rally in Amritsar on Thursday, Majithia read another line in the hymn as “nischay kar Jaitley ji ki jeet karon”. Senior Congress leader Bir Devinder Singh had urged Akal Takht jathedar to summon Majithia for his “blasphemous act”, prompting Majithia to offer an apology for his “unintentional mistake”.
Some Sikh bodies, in a representation to the Akal Takht jathedar, sought Majithia’s excommunication and arrest for hurting Sikh sentiments.
These bodies, including Damdami Taksal, Sikh Students Federation (Mehta), Sikh Youth Federation (Bhindrawale) and United Sikh Movement, also bur nt Majithia’s effigy at the Bhandari Bridge here.
The Congress workers also burnt his effigy outside the Hall Gate here.
