All set for Maghi Mela

Muktsar, Punjab: The district administration claims to have completed all preparations for the smooth conduct of the Maghi Mela, beginning Tuesday.

“Traffic regulation is the important issue for and during the mela. We have made all arrangements with the help of the district police to handle traffic. The main bus stand would be vacated before 8 am on Tuesday and no buses will be allowed to operate from there. It will be used as a parking space to ferry public for the mela,” said Paramjit Singh, Muktsar DC.

“The normal bus service will run from temporary bus shelters that we have erected.Police have also been asked to station recovery vans to carry away vehicles that block roads,” he added.

Divers have also been deployed at the sarovar at the Darbar Sahib for any eventuality.

The administration has also provided mobile medical vans and ambulances by dividing the city into seven sectors.

“We have also instructed hospitals to spare beds in case of any emergency,” the DC added.

Political conferences are also scheduled to be held.

Congress is holding the conference near Rajpal Cinema, Malout road, close to the Gurdwara Sahib and the bus stand. The SAD is holding its conference on the Malout road, outside the city on a SGPC plot.

The sanjha morcha is holding its conference on the Bathinda road, near police lines Muktsar.

Lakhs of devotees visit from across the country visit Muktsar every year to take a dip in the holy sarovar on Maghi Mela.
