Muktsar, Punjab: To mark Gurpurb (birth anniversary) of Guru Nanak Dev, a ‘nagar kirtan’ was organised with religious fervor from historic Gurdwara Guptsar Patshahi Dasmi, Chhateana, to Gurdwara Tutti Gandhi Sahib, Muktsar, on Friday.
The procession led by ‘panj pyaras’ was organised by Nirol Sewa Organisation (NSO), a nonprofit registered organisation dedicated to the promotion of Sikh religion, culture and history, besides creating awareness on social evils like drug addiction and female foeticide.
A rare ‘palki’ brought from Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib, which was donated by Sikh philanthropists of USA, ‘gatka’ parties and special band escorting the procession added colour to it.
Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, Balwant Singh Nandgarh also attended ‘nagar kirtan’. Flower petals were showered on the procession from a plane near Dhulkot village.
Devotees put up stalls of ‘langar’ and welcomed the procession with enthusiasm in their respective areas. NSO president Jagdeep Singh Kala Sodhi said the organisation had been spreading the preaching of Sikh Guru Sahiban to bring a socio-religious awakening among Sikhs by holding religious programmes.
