Anandpur Sahib, Punjab: Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa today took a pledge at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib to continue his fast for the release of Sikh youths who have completed their jail terms. Khalsa, who started an indefinite fast at Gurdwara Amb Sahib, Mohali, last month, was rounded up on December 6 but he continued his fast after his release.
Accompanied by Harpal Singh Cheema, acting president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Panj Pardhani), former Justice Ajit Singh and others, he paid obeisance at the gurdwara here.
“Today is my birthday. I paid obeisance here so that I could keep my struggle going till my last breath,” he said. Blaming the state government as well as the Centre for the plight of Sikhs languishing in jails, he said Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal was “misguiding” the public over the issue.
“The Chief Minister claims he has no authority to release jailed Sikhs. But the truth is that the state government wrote to the Chandigarh Administration opposing parole to Shamsher Singh detained at the Burail jail,”
Khalsa said. Even as thousands of Sikhs were languishing in jails, perpetrators of the anti-Sikh riots were yet to be brought to justice, he added.
