Takht, SGPC object to online ‘parshad’

Amritsar, Punjab: The idea of ordering Golden Temple ‘pinni parshad’ online has not gone down well with Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh, SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar and Chief Khalsa Diwan president Charanjit Singh Chadha.

For the past three months, a Bangalore-based entrepreneur has been offering to arrange the ‘parshad’ through courier.

Even as the owner of this venture, Goonjan Mal, claimed to have catered to around 500 devotees from Canada, Australia, Dubai and Singapore, but the Jathedar has termed it as a violation of ‘maryada’ (Sikh code of conduct).

“Devotees should discourage this practice,” he said.

Chadha said though ‘pinni parshad’ is through a different recipe, it too was sacred.

The SGPC president said it would be his priority to discuss the issue with the Akal Takht Jathedar as soon as the former returned to the city. “This issue pertains to religious sentiments, which are defeated if the ‘parshad’ is sent like this.”
