Amritsar, Punjab: A day after the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) asked him to apologise for allegedly keeping a photograph of Guru Gobind Singh near his feet during an event, yoga guru Baba Ramdev today clarified that the incident dated back to November 2011 when he had conducted a yoga camp in Bathinda.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Baba Ramdev said “Guru Gobind Singh’s photograph was presented to me by a group of villagers who had inadvertently kept it on the dais”. He said “as soon as I came to know that the photograph was placed there against the traditions, I immediately apologised and regretted for the same”.
Ramdev also stated that he had immense respect for the Sikh gurus, adding that the Sikhs had contributed a lot in the country’s freedom struggle. He said he could not imagine showing disrespect to the Sikh gurus while, expressing regret for the mistake committed by his volunteers during the camp. He said they had no intention to hurt anybody’s sentiments.
