Delhi: Former MP Jagdish Tytler, whose candidature was withdrawn by the party during the last Lok Sabha polls due to protests over his role in 1984 Sikh Genocide, has stated that he would file nomination for the North-East seat.
“I have never been named in any case registered till date. And as far as the perception of people is concerned, I have represented a Lok Sabha seat which has a dominant Sikh population. And they have been voting for me all along,” said Jagdish Tytler.
In addition to being accused as a mastermind of the 1984 Genocide of Sikhs, Tytler is accused of instigating a mob that led to the murder of three men who had taken shelter at a Gurdwara on 1 November 1984. The mob attack was part of violence against Sikhs after the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on 31 October 1984. Three men Badal Singh, Thakur Singh and Gurcharan Singh were killed near Gurdwara Pul Bangash. Overall more than 15000 Sikhs were killed over the period of 3 days and leaders like Jagdish Tytler, Sajjan Kumar led the mob.
