HSGPC Move a Bid to Divide Sikhs, Claims Sukhbir

Amritsar, Punjab: Even as the HSGPC (Management) Bill 2014 was moved in Haryana Assembly today, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal said any such move on part of the Haryana Government would be a clear transgression upon the power of Parliament to make such a law.

Talking to mediapersons after paying obeisance at the Golden Temple here, the Deputy CM said, “The move to divide the Sikhs by creating a separate Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee had been initiated by the Gandhi family as its latest anti-Sikh conspiracy”.

Slamming the Congress government in Haryana for its proposal to constitute a separate body for the management of gurdwara affairs in the state, he said this move was “in accordance with the age-old policy of the Congress to divide and rule”. He said by initiating this step, the Congress was again trying to divide the Sikh community, which would not be tolerated at any cost. Sukhbir said the SGPC was the supreme body of the Sikhs, which came into existence after countless sacrifices and none would be allowed to bifurcate it.

Also, the Deputy CM said development of the holy city had always been a priority with him. He said the decision to set up an IIM in Amritsar coupled with the Union Finance Minister’s announcement to include the holy city in the New Heritage City Development Yojana had given further impetus to the development of the region. Besides, he said the move to expedite work on the Kolkata-Amritsar industrial corridor would also give the much needed momentum.
