Amritsar, Punjab: Sikh hardliners on Monday demanded the construction of a memorial in memory of Beant Singh, Satwant Singh and Kehar Singh, the assassins of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
This demand was made by the Dal Khalsa and was endorsed by other groups such as the Akali Dal (Panch Pardhani) and the Akali Dal (Amritsar) led by Simranjit Singh Mann.
It came up when these groups met at the Golden Temple to observe the death anniversary of Kehar Singh and Satwant Singh, who were hanged to death this day 25 years ago. A religious function was held in which Akal Takht jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh took part. The jathedar honoured Satwant’s father, Tirlok Singh. Junior-level officials of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee were present.
