Gurdwara attacked in Andhra Pradesh, SGPC condemns and seek action

Amritsar, Punjab: A Sikh Gurdwara came under violent attack in Bijmour in Andhra Pradesh where the miscreants entered the shrine and beat up the volunteers, causing damage to the Sikh holy scriptures Guru Granth Sahib during the ongoing anti-Tenalgana protests. The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee today condemed the incident in strong words and demanded protection and safety of the Sikh shrines in the Andhra Pardesh witnessing violent protests these days

SGPC Chief Avtar Singh Makkar said in a statement issued here that the religious places are sacred and the protestors should understand their sanctity. He said there was heavy damage to the shrine and even the Guru Granth Sahib received the damages which was highly condemnable and the govermment must immedtaily arrest the culprits. He said even the sewadars were not spared and they had to bear the brunt of the violent mob that enetred the Gurdwara.

Makkar said the centre government should also intervene into the matter and Sikhs’ shrines and community members must be protected by enforcing the law and order situation there. He said their officials were keeping in touch with those who were in the management and they had confirmed that the miscreants attacked the gurudwara building and tried to put it on fire and the people who resisted were beaten up badly.
