Flying Sikh roots for change, decisive leadership at Centre

Jalandhar, Punjab: Legendary Indian athlete and Padma Shri awardee Milkha Singh on Sunday emphasised the need to change the political system of the country.

Milkha, who was in the city to attend the CT Half Marathon here, said India was in a dire need of having a strong leader with the capacity to take bold decisions. “The country is undergoing a political crisis. The focus of every leader is to tarnish the image of their opponent and save chair. It is high time to change this system now.

Someone must be there at the top to usher in change to come out the traditional way of governing. We need strong leaders to lead now,” said Milkha, when asked about his views in wake of the coming Lok Sabha polls.

He said India needs a Prime Minister who respects the country and has a vision for its development. “It is up to the people to decide— whether they like Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi or Arvind Kejriwal,” he said. He also criticised all parties over the lack of infrastructure for sports in the country. “Our government has made significant budget allocation for sportspersons, but they do not bother about results of schemes. The government fails to check whether these funds are spent properly or not,” he averred.

The Flying Sikh flagged off the CT Half Marathon along with Punjabi singer Kamal Heer and music composer Sachin Ahuja at around 6.30 am.
