Awareness Campaign about Drug Abuse, Female Infanticide at ‘Nagar Kirtan’ on Guru Nanak Dev’s Birth anniversary

Ludhiana, Punjab: Ludhiana residents celebrated Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s birth anniversary with a difference, this time, by campaigning against drug abuse, female infanticide and promoting plantation on ‘Nagar Kirtan’.

Gurdwara Sarabha Nagar president Jatinder Singh Sandhu said in a statement that they along with International Human Rights Organisation (IHRO) and other social and human rights groups highlighted the Guru’s mission to devotees and made them aware of Gurdwara Sahib’s activities.

This was stated by International Human Rights Organisation (IHRO) chairperson DS Gill, in a press release issued here today.

“We are coordinating four projects of rural education, rehabilitation of drug addicts, voice against female infanticide and environment care through Educational Welfare Committee (EWC) of the Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Sarabha Nagar, Ludhiana with other social organisations,” he said.

The ‘Nagar Kirtan’  starts at 9:00 am from Gurdwara Sarabha Nagar which was led by Sri Guru Granth Sahib, Panj Piara’s and followed by Gurdwara president Jatinder Singh Sandhu and its committee members along with local residents, said Mr Gill.

He further added that eminent Sikh scholars, Ragi’s, Dhadi’s and IHRO and other social activists, at the the Nagar Kirtan procession at stop-overs, made aware the devotees about Guru Nanak’s teachings and his mission for which the Gurdwara Sahib has initiated the projects.
