Amritsar, Punjab: Jathedar, Akal Takht, Giani Gurbachan Singh here today appealed about 50 Sikh families across the world to plant a sapling each in the memory of those killed in the 1984 Sikh Genocide following the death of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
He said it was a gesture to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the tragedy in which thousands of Sikhs lost their life. He planted five saplings in front of Langar Hall in the Golden Temple complex today.
The Jathedar said all local managing committees of gurdwaras had been directed to fetch saplings from the Golden Temple and Gurdwara Khadoor Sahib and distribute these among devotees.
The campaign has been launched by the Gyan Sewa Trust, dedicated to education and environment, in association with Baba Sewa Singh, Khadoor Sahib.
