Kurukshetra, Haryana: Supporters of the Haryana Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (HSGMC) have decided to launch an agitation from Sunday to put pressure on the state government to evict “unwanted elements” from all eight historic gurdwaras of the state.
At a meeting held under the chairmanship of Jagdish Singh Jhinda at Dera Kar Sewa here on Saturday, the Sikh leaders said the members of the Shiromani Akal Dal (Badal) were assembling in a large number their supporters from Punjab in various shrines.
Jhinda said the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) should withdraw its security task force as it amounts to illegal possession of the shrines.
Jhinda said a peaceful protest march would be held in Ambala on Sunday and similar agitations would be staged at various district headquarters.
“We are against the use of force and urge the Akalis and SGPC to honour the decision of the Haryana assembly on the formation of the HSGMC and voluntarily leave the premises.
The Punjab government is trying to create an unsavoury situation by giving misleading information and we condemn it,” he said.
