Morinda, Nangal, Punjab: Shiromani Akali Dal ( SAD) president and Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday said there was no need for Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi to apologise for the 2002 Gujarat genocide.
“Apology for what, when a high court and the Supreme Court have already given clean chit to Modi in the genocide case,” Sukhbir said, while talking to reporters at Morinda town in Rupnagar district.
In reply to a question, he said the scarcity of sand and gravel in the state was not an issue in the Lok Sabha elections, though the Congress tried to make it an issue during the last assembly elections, but the SAD won.
He blamed the Congress-led UPA government for creating artificial shortage of sand and gravel by issuing wrong EIA (environment impact assessment) notification 2006. He said the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) amended this policy partially only when the SAD-BJP government forced it to do so by passing a resolution in the Punjab assembly.
He promised that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would amend all policies framed by the Congress-led UPA government to loot the natural resources of nation as soon as it voted to power.
He said Congress candidate from Anandpur Sahib was an outsider and had come to Punjab for fighting elections as time pass.
Sukhbir also addressed rallies at Morinda and Nangal, where he appealed to the voters of the Anandpur Sahib constituency to vote for Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra.
Punjab industries minister Madan Mohan Mittal, Rupnagar MLA Daljit Singh Cheema, Damdami Taksal chief Baba Harnam Singh Dhuma, former MLA Ujaggar Singh Badali also addressed the rallies.
