Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab: On the occasion of the 409th anniversary of the installation of Guru Granth Sahib, Shri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, celebrated its foundation day with fervour.
Giani Mal Singh, jathedar, Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib, presided over the function. Avtar Singh Makkar, president of the SGPC and and chancellor of the university, was the chief guest on the occasion.
The bhog of sehaj path of Guru Granth was performed by the students of the university. In his address, Giani Mal Singh motivated the students to follow the tenets of Sikhism. He emphasised the need for setting up of more such educational institutes so that the challenges faced by the society could be tackled.
The SGPC president said the aim of setting up of the university was to encourage students for religious activities along with formal education. Dr Gurmohan Singh Walia, vice-chancellor of the university, exhorted the students to follow Sikh rituals and teachings. He said the motto of the university was to provide research-oriented environment in the field of religion.
A team of the Gatka Federation of India, Ludhiana, also performed on the occasion.
