Amritsar, Punjab: The Eco-Amritsar, in collaboration with the SGPC, will celebrate the Amritsar foundation day on July 6. The city was established by Guru Ram Das. The programme aims at engaging the inhabitants of the holy city in preserving its heritage and natural resources.
CII member Gunbir Singh has been asked by the Eco-Sikh of America to head the programme. Elaborating on it, he said, “Those citizens who follow the maxim of Amritsar- My City, my pride, my responsibility, are welcome to join the holistic programme. The endeavour seeks to synergise the strengths of like-minded organisations and people towards a proud future for the city.”
A meeting of the Eco-Amritsar took stock of the developments pertaining to Amritsar.
Gunbir Singh said the city was one of the founder members of the international Green Pilgrim Network. Then Deputy Commissioner KS Pannu and SGPC secretary Dalmegh Singh were co-promoters of its recognition in Italy. Subsequently, secretary of the SGPC Roop Singh and Ravneet Singh of the Eco-Sikh attended the United Nations’ meet of 140 nations in Hyderabad. Now a mandate for the city has been established for the Eco-Amritsar.
Other members of the Eco-Amritsar include Col Kuldeep Singh Sandhu, Punjab Pollution Control Board’s Kuldeep Singh, SGPC secretary Roop Singh, Dr Balvinder Singh from Guru Nanak Dev University, Dr HP Singh of the GNDU, president of the All-India Brick Kiln Association Arvinder Singh Chamak, Dr Dharamvir Singh from the Chief Khalsa Diwan, psychiatrist Dr Gurpreetinder Singh, Voice of Amritsar Indu Arora, the president of the Indian Medical Association, Amritsar, Dr Amrik Singh, and the Eco-Sikh programme manager in India Ravneet Singh.
