Social worker honoured

Ludhiana, Punjab: The Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Antarashtriya Foundation honoured eminent social worker SP Singh Oberoi today with Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Award at Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Bhawan in Rakba village.

Canadian Member Parliament Jasbeer Singh Sandhu, NRI and industrialist Ali Virk, Sahib Singh, retired commissioner SK Ahluwalia were also honoured on the occasion.

While addressing the gathering, SP Oberoi announced that Sarbat Da Bhala Trust would help the foundation in all ways for constructing historical museum on the premises of the Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Bhawan.

He said at present the Trust was holding free eye check up camps. As many as 6,000 free eye operations are being done and medicines and lens are also being provided free of cost to patients. Shelters were also being constructed for the needy.

SP Oberoi, who paid the blood money of 17 youths in Dubai, said the traffic problem was increasing day by day in the state. Keeping this in view, 20 lakh reflectors were being given to the police administration.

KK Bawa, president of the foundation, thanked Oberoi.

He said the 300th martyrdom of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur would be commemorated at the national level in Delhi on June 9, 2016.
