Badal seek legal opinion release of Sikh prisoners

Chandigarh: A day after the Tamil Nadu Government announced to free killers of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today said his government would see what could be legally done in case of convicts in the Beant Singh assassination case.

Talking to mediapersons here, Badal said the matter would be seen from the legal point of view.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has already directed the Central Government and the UT administration to take a decision on the convicts’ pleas for their release as per the new premature policy.

Lodged in Burail jail, Shamsher Singh and Gurmeet Singh had argued that they should not be discriminated against. Other life convicts were being released after 14 years in jail, but the government was not considering their request.
