Sikh Kathavachak arrested by Bathinda police for promoting Sikh tenets; Sikhs outraged

Bathinda, Punjab: It is learnt that the Punjab Police Bathinda arrested a Sikh Kathavachak for prompting Sikh sangat to follow the Sikh tenets and remain vigilant about anti-Sikh activities of deras.

Sikh Kathavachak (preacher) Bhai Kuldip Singh Sakht was reportedly arrested by Thermal Plant Police Station registered a case under section 295-A (Indian Penal Code) on the complaint of a Dera Sauda Sirsa follower named Harmeet Singh S/O Mewa Singh, who alleged that Bhai Kuldip Singh’s words had hurt his ‘religious’ feelings. Bhai Kuldip Singh was addressing the Sikh Sangat on September 01, 2013 at Gurdwara Sahib located at Street Number 04, Baba Farid Nagar, Bathinda on Guru Granth Shaib Parkash Day samagam.

It is notable that the Dera Sauda Sirsa (DDS) had been in conflict with the Sikh Panth since 2007 when the dera head attempted to personify himself as tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

It is notable that Punjab’s ruling Badal Government did not only suffered failure to arrest Dera sauda head in a case u/s 295-A registered against him for May 2007 blasphemous activities, rather it had attempted to withdraw the case from the court.

As per information case against Bhai Kuldip Singh has been registered by the police without any prior investigation. The representatives of various Sikh bodies have strongly condemned the police action which is motivated by political reasons.
