SGPC jatha back from Pak historical shrines

Amritsar, Punjab: A jatha sent by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to Pakistan returned home on Sunday after the 10-day pilgrimage to historical shrines in the neighbouring country.

The 122 pilgrims had crossed over to Pakistan on June 21. Besides paying obeisance at the shrines of Panja Sahib, Nanakana Sahib and Dera Sahib, they also observed the death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh at Lahore on Saturday.

Led by Gurinder Singh Tharu , member of the Dharam Prachar Committee of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), returned to Attari by a special train, happy with the arrangements that the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC) had made for their stay during the entire pilgrimage.

The jatha which had gone to Pakistan in the first week of June for observing the martyrdom day of Guru Arjan Dev had complained of bad arrangement, primarily because of shifting of the martyrdom day date following the amendment of the Nanakshahi calendar.

The Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC) had declined to go by the amended calendar and stuck to the earlier date.
