Normalcy returning to violence-hit Sirsa

Sirsa, Haryana: Normalcy was returning in trouble-torn Sirsa town, where authorities relaxed curfew during the day, which was clamped after a mob attack on Sikh Community by goons of Sirsa Dera Sacha Sauda followers.

As normalcy was returning to Sirsa city, relaxation in curfew was given from early morning till 9 PM, Deputy Commissioner J Ganesan said here today.

He said shops opened in the morning and people came out of their homes to purchase necessary items.

“Also, the district administration today made special arrangements in Sirsa city on the occasion of birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev,” he said.

The routes were decided for vehicles of devotees coming from outside to attend both the celebrations, Ganesan said.

He said regular patrolling was being done by paramilitary forces and teams of Haryana Police in the city.

Curfew was clamped in most parts of the city on November 24 after a clash in which 12 persons were injured and six vehicles set ablaze near Balmiki Chowk when some Sikhs were on their way back from a meeting in Gurdwara Dashmi Patshahi. Meanwhile, educational institutions in Sirsa will remain closed till November 28, Ganesan said.

Earlier in the day, security was beefed up as large number of Dera Sachha Sauda followers took part in the annual fanatic ritual to mark birth anniversary of the controversial Dera founder.

State police and CRPF jawans were seen manning various entry points of the town.
