San Jose Sikh Gurdwara Sahib Elections 2015

In ideal situation, there should be no dispute, wrangling, or expensive court cases over the control of our Gurdwaras. But this is not the case and we all face an unsavory situation in San Jose with elections this week.

I have intentionally tried to keep away from getting involved in the politics. However I am deeply concerned about the impact the result of this election could have on our Khalsa school. Our leadership needs to focus more on our next generation in US and less on the politics in India. It is imperative that we groom our future generations in such a way that they become a responsible citizen of this country while staying connected with our heritage. The Khalsa school as an institute has been delivering this for over 20 years.

I have been associated with the Khalsa School as volunteer for over 18 years and I treasure it as an institute of repute for the Bay Area Sikh Community. All my three kids have learned Gurmat and Gurmukhi from this school and I owe that to the volunteers, teachers, school management, and support by the Gurdwara committee. The Sikh Scouts initiative was the brainchild of Dr. Gurinderpal Singh ji and I was fortunate be involved in executing the initiative. Similarly, my son learned his first lessons on Gatka from Sukhdev Singh Bainiwal. The teachers, and volunteers have mentored my children including, Sardar Narinderpal Singh ji, Sardar Rajinder Singh Manger, Sardarni Pushpinder Kaur, Jagmohan singh sahni, Sardarni Iqbaljit Kaur Hansra, and many others.

After a lot of deliberation, I wanted to share my gratitude to the Khalsa School team and encourage all my friends to exercise their right to vote making sure that our Khalsa school remain in the safe hands of responsible and visionary people. Lets exercise our right to vote tomorrow … ensuring our Gurdwara and Khalsa School stays in the safe hands of responsible and visionary leadership. Endorsing the San Jose Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee for the continuation of progressive leadership.

I hope the elections pass over peacefully this weekend.
