Gurdwara commission postpones hearing of plea on SGPC auditor

Amritsar, Punjab: MRITSAR: The Sikh Gurdwara Judicial Commission deferred the hearing of the petition seeking the dismissal of the highprofile Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) auditor SS Kohli to August 7.

The petition, filed by Akali Dal (Panch Pardhani) leader Baldev Singh Sirsa on July 22, was slated to come up for hearing before the three-member commission on Thursday. However, without citing any reasons, the petitioner was told the case would now be heard on August 7.

Besides seeking the dismissal of Kohli, the petition also calls for recovering the entire sum of money paid by the SGPC to the auditor as salary. The petition also calls for the dismissal of SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar and secretary Dalmegh Singh for allegedly having flouted rules.

Other reasons cited in the petition are with reference to the “flawed” procedure followed by the SGPC for appointing Kohli in 2009. No person with a monthly salary of above ₹ 7,000 per month can be appointed in SGPC directly by its president; the post has to be advertised… However, in the case of Kohli, the rule was not followed and currently he gets an annual pay package of around ₹ 1 crore.
