Akal Takht Sahib Does Not Accept Majithia’s Apology; Sikhs Protest in Amritsar Seeking Action

Amritsar, Punjab: Fearing the fury expressed by Sikhs across the world, notorious Akali leader Bikram Majithia, today, tendered his apology for distorting the words of a shabad by Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji. Majithia had put the name of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arun Jaitley in place of pronoun used by Guru Sahib in the shabad. He posted a video of his apology on his Facebook account as well as sending it in writing to Sri Akal Takht Sahib. Media reports indicate, however, that Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh, did not accept his apology for the blasphemy due to pressure of Sikh Sangat.

Majithia said in his apology that he had realized the mistake done by him unmindfully, for which he humbly tendered apology before Sikh Panth. He said, “Whenever a Sikh carries out mistake unwittingly and tenders apology politely, Guru Sahib accepts it.

Meanwhile, Giani Gurbachan Singh has clarified that the written apology sent by Majithia has not been accepted. He said that any decision in this matter would be taken only in the meeting of Panj Singh Sahiban, a council of five elders. The head of the Akal Takht, highest temporal seat of the Sikhs, could order Majithia to be presented before him.

Meanwhile, Sikh Sangat has carried out protests against Majithia in Amritsar and other parts of Punjab.  A large scale protest was organized in Amritsar in which a number of Panthik organizations took part seeking action against Bikram Majithia and other Akalis who are responsible for mis-using Gurbani for self-gains. Members of Sikh Youth Federation Bhindrawale and Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner seeking action against Majithia.  Sikh activists also requested Giani Gurbachan Singh to sack the Akali leader.
