SAD (Badal) protest outside CM’s house

New Delhi: Workers and leaders of the Delhi unit of the Shiromani AKali Dal (SAD), Badal, today staged a protest outside the residence of Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

Raising slogans against the Delhi Government, they protested against a petition being filed in the Delhi High Court challenging the authority of Shri Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs. Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) president Manjit Singh GK, who is also the president of Delhi unit of SAD (Badal), was leading the protest.

The protesters said that a criminal petition was filed last week by a person named Jatinder Singh Sayali who is very close to former DSGMC president Paramjit Singh Sarna.

The petition alleged that Sri Akal Takht interfered in the system of natural justice. It was filed after the Akal Takht asked Sarna to withdraw a petition filed in the Delhi High Court against the decision of the DSGMC to build a 1984 Sikh carnage memorial in the precincts of Gurdwara Sri Rakabganj Sahib in Delhi.

Initially Sarna withdrew the petition, but later challenged the authority of Shri Akal Takht.

“This would never be acceptable to the Sikhs living across the globe and Sarna was doing all this at the behest of the Congress which has always harmed the interest of the Sikhs,” added Manjit Singh GK.

DSGMC general secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa said that it is the Congress’ well-planned game under which they are continuously working against Shri Akal Takht. Other SAD leaders, including Avtar Singh Hit, Kuldeep Singh Bhogal and Onkar Singh Thapar, also took part in the protest.

Alleging that the Congress was interfering in the Sikh matters, GK said that it has happened for the first time that a petition was filed in the court against Shri Akal Takht.
