AGPC appeals Akal Takht for action against LPU over anti-Sikh book in syllabus

California, USA: American Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (AGPC) Saturday sought strict action against Phagwara (Punjab) based Lovely Professional University (LPU) for prescribing an anti-Sikh history book to the students on its campus. They made an appeal to the Sikh’s highest temporal seat Akal Takht that there was a conspiracy to distort Sikh history and derogatory remarks were made in the book the Sikhs’ tenth Sikh Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji which is sacrilegious.

AGPC President Sardar Jaswant Singh Hothi and Coordinator Dr Pritpal Singh stated in a joint statement that they know the political shelter that is being provided to LPU management and they would expose these political forces. They said why no case was registered against the management, the printer and publisher of the book which aimed to distort the history of the Sikhs and made malicious references to the Guru.

In the communiqué to the Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh, they said they would take up the matter at the international level and apart from immediate ban on the book, a criminal case be registered for hurting religious sentiments against the management of LPU, the authors of the book and the publisher. The History Book published in Hindi titled ‘Bharat Mein Rajnitik Saranchna’ (Political Structures in India) is meant for the students of MA Part I of the LPU’s distance education.

“Such a blatant act of distorting fact relating the ending days of life of Guru Gobind Singh can not be tolerated anywhere,” asked Dr. Pritpal adding the book was published by Laxmi Publications Pvt Ltd and no action so far has been taken against them. He said it is deliberate attempt to distort the Sikh history and refereces to the revered Guru. They said the LPU was trying willfully to be-little and degrade the Sikhs by resorting to such act. The US leaders lashed out at the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee too for the non-action.

“The SGPC will not speak because its own books contain anti-Sikh references and many a times those had been taken back. When its own hands are not clean why they would speak against the LPU,” said Hothi.

He said the book in question contains just one and half page of history relating Sikhs but the whole references are total distortion and comments against Guru Gobind Singh are beyond.

Mr mittal would have removed the history book once it has been under his notice,He has not made such a big uni to hurt the sentiments of the sikhs, so please concentrate on banning this wrong history book from the publishing house, the more u make an issue out of it the more it shall be circulated,so please get it off the market shelf.
