Ludhiana, Punjab:
After holding the city to a halt for over a day, Panthic forces lifted their day long dharna Sunday morning but not before announcing a call for Punjab Bandh on December 7.

Led by the Sant Samaj and the Damdami Taksal the panthic bodies have however announced that no rail or road traffic will be disrupted and that only shops and business enterprises will be closed during this bandh.

Darshan Singh (60) a resident of village Lohara who died yesterday during police firing was cremated here today morning amidst tight security. Darshan Singh had received bullet injuries when the police opened fire at Samrala Chowk to stop supporters of various groups from marching towards the venue of a religious congregation organized by Anti-Sikh cult Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansathan of Ashutosh.

A group of Sikhs led by the Panthic forces had been sitting on Dharna since yesterday morning which continued through the night. The group was demanding registration of an FIR against CM Parkash Singh Badal, MLA Ludhiana East Harish Bedi and his son honey Bedi and Ashutosh. The dharna was finally lifted today morning when the district administration announced that it was taking the body of Darshan Singh to his native village for his last rights and that this was being done in consent with the deceased’s family. The district administration then allowed the people sitting on the dharna to attend the last rights but did not hand over the body of Darshan Singh to the group.

Baba Harnam Singh Dhuma of the Damdami Taksal announced that, “leaders of all Sikh organizations will meet at our dera in Chowk Mehta head on December 12 where future course of action will be decided. This plan will then be announced on December 14 here at Lohara.”

Panthic leaders meanwhile slammed the state government, “ for allowing patronage to people like Ashutosh and hurting sentiments of the Sikhs. And this is evident from the statement of DGP Punjab P S Gill who has admitted that when a migrant went to register his FIR with the police he was shooed away saying that the police was busy in a bigger function. The bigger function was this congregation, “ added Singh member of the Akhand Keertani Jatha.

Every time congress is in power this type of violence emerges in Punjab, I wonder if congress is again behind this just to bring down the current government of Punjab… well they quite good at their games…
