Another Sikh missing since yesterday’s clashes (Pictures)

ldh5Ludhiana, Punjab: There is no official figure of how many Sikhs killed or injured in Ludhiana Police and Sikh Sangat clash. Jagjit Singh is very worried man and so is his family. The reason – his 38-year-old brother, Swaran, who had gone out along with him, is still missing.

“My brother and I, along with his seven-year-old son, had gone along with the ‘Akhand Kirtaniya jatha’ to the Feruman Shaheeda gurdwara to protest against a congregation that was being held at the GLADA grounds on Chandigarh Road. Though my nephew and I came back home safe and sound yesterday, I don’t have any idea about where my brother might be,” said a worried Jagjit.

“We’ve been looking for him everywhere, praying he is safe, but have yet not been able to get a clue as to his whereabouts. “The last time I saw him yesterday was at Cheema Chowk when the police lobbed tear gas shells at a rampaging mob. After the crowd dispersed we got separated,” he added.

For the last 35 hours Jagjit has been frantically searching for his brother, hoping someone would disclose his whereabouts.

“My brother devotes most of his time in prayers and ‘kirtans’ and we thought he was probably busy helping those injured in the violence. However, his mobile has remained switched off”, says Jagjit. He added Swaran has two sons aged seven and four, along with a nine-year-old daughter and wife Simranjit Kaur waiting for him.

Suspecting the police might be involved in his disappearance, former SAD councillor Rajinder Singh Bhatia said, “We all fear the cops picked him up and will torture him. In fact many people have gone missing after yesterday’s clashes and this needs to be probed.”

Swaran is a resident of Azad Nagar and runs a confectionary shop to earn his livelihood.

Only way left with sikhs is to follow Guru and Gurbani teachings wholeheartedly. As long as our Kathni and Karni are not same and we are doing different things and showing different we can never achieve our goals. Panthic Ekta is another thing which is lacking. All the so called panthic leaders are looking for personal power instead of power of Panth. May waheguru give his grace to our leaders so that they start thinking about upliftment of sikhpanth.

As long as we go on treading our present path we will suffer loss in monitary and in terms of lives. Giving your life for a good cause is one thing and wasting your life for such leaders who achieve nothing after all the struggle is another.Recent history of sikh struggle shows only this failure nothing else.

I agree with you Jasmeet. Sikhs never get justice instead are looked upon as the guilty one. I think today’s youth need to wake to prevent this from happening over and over. The youth (both men and women) need to turn to Sikhi, stop abusing drugs, obtain high education to show the world our abilities and get recognition across the globe as strong, intelligent, and disciplined community. Today’s men and women who call themselves Sikh should truly become Sikhs by not trimming their hair, not getting eyebrows done etc. We need to be more like Sikhs in the eras of our Gurus so events like 84 and this one don’t happen again…
I hope our youth start to understand what a huge crisis we are in and not let our Gurus sacrifices go to waste. We don’t have to be violent to get respected and justice. If we keep this up our future generations might not even know what true Sikhism is…
Please don’t take out talwars because this is not a fight to be won by weapons but rather by maintaining our Sikhi and teachings of our Gurus; otherwise what is the need of having two three thakas (liquor stores) in a pind and preaching against Sikhi. We should’ve figured it out by now that external/antisikh forces are trying to make Sikhs weak internally so our religion collapses to nothing in future…
I hope we won’t let that happen.

  4. A sad punjabi

I am rather shocked by the behaviour and attitude of the Punjab Police. Shameful batting and charging like mad bulls and firing on innocent protestors should be condemned by all.
Whose side is the Punjab Government? Once, known as best police of india, is now corrupt and insensitive to the public’s service.

  5. We say Punjab is the land of our Guru’s. Well it’s all happening on the same land, it seems like anyone can get up and create some conflict against Sikhs who have always fought for other people, saved other religions and fought for other people rights, but now when it’s our turn then politicians and even the police have turned their backs on us. Everyone has a right to express their views and Sikh people were doing the same. It was a rightful protest. We were fighting for our Guru, GURU GRANTH SAHIB, OUR LIVE GURU. But there is no justice… Innocent people died in the clashes and once again it’s the Punjab police who had no mercy on the unarmed people. Sikh police killing Sikh people. Shame.

  6. As to how many innocent Sikhs killed and injured in Ludhiana Police firing, must be in the knowledge of the unhurt Sant Samaj and the radicals present, at the time of police firing or the police and the intelligence officials might have informed them clearly who got lifted their dharana from Samrala chowk (Ludhiana), being said under somewhat suspicious circumstances.

The number of causalities could be more as now, the aggrieved started coming to claim about the missing from the scene of police firing as reported.
From the blame game, it can also be concluded that the so-called radicals, always remain unhurt and the Sant Samaj may not be allowed to move together hereafter, and, then, Sikhs are not likely to follow them to sacrifice their lives so innocently.
